Overview
Void is a privacy-first Safari and DNS protection app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The app is designed to generate protection artifacts locally and to avoid building advertising profiles around your browsing.
What Void stores
Void may store filter list selections, downloaded list metadata, generated rule counts, custom rules, sync preferences, diagnostics, and app settings. This data is used to make the app work and to keep your protection setup understandable.
Browsing data
Void does not sell browsing data, use it for advertising or app analytics, or share it with advertising or analytics companies. The app includes no advertising or third-party analytics SDKs. Safari content blocker rules and DNS host rules are generated for local protection. Diagnostics stay on your device unless you choose to share them.
DNS activity and resolution
On iPhone and iPad, DNS filtering uses Void DNS, an encrypted DNS service operated by Void on Cloudflare's network. When you turn it on, iOS sends your device's DNS queries over HTTPS to an address that contains a random identifier created for that device. The identifier is not linked to your name, email address, Apple Account, or advertising identifier.
Void DNS answers queries for domains blocked by your filter lists and custom rules, and forwards allowed queries to the DNS server chosen in DNS Settings: Cloudflare by default, or Google Public DNS or Quad9 with Void Pro. That server receives the query from Void DNS rather than from your device, and its own privacy and retention policies apply. Cloudflare processes your connection, including its IP address, to deliver the service; Void DNS does not store IP addresses.
To run the service, Void DNS stores your device identifier with your selected DNS lists, custom DNS rules, DNS server, pause state, and recording preference. If you unlock Void Pro, it also stores the App Store transaction identifier, product, and expiration date for your purchase so it can apply Void Pro limits; it receives this from Apple's signed purchase records, not your payment details. Void uses Apple's App Attest service to confirm requests come from the genuine app.
When recording is enabled, Void DNS records each query's domain name, record type, time, whether it was blocked, and which list or rule blocked it, together with the device identifier. The app downloads hourly totals and domain counts from these records to show Activity and keeps them on your device for eight days. Server records are kept for up to three months and are used only to provide Activity to your device. Pausing recording stops new records. Clearing activity removes it from your device and stops Void DNS from returning earlier records to the app; they then expire on schedule. These records are not used for advertising, sold, or shared, and are not included in iCloud sync.
Void does not operate a VPN, relay your general internet traffic, or inspect the contents of your encrypted web connections. On Mac, DNS filtering runs in a local network extension: it filters on your Mac, keeps activity on your Mac, and forwards allowed requests to the original DNS resolver for the connection.
iCloud sync
If you enable iCloud sync, Void syncs only the categories you select: Safari filter subscriptions and custom rules; Website Controls defaults and per-site preferences; installed user scripts, their enabled states, and website exclusions; and DNS filter subscriptions and custom rules. These settings sync across devices signed in to the same Apple Account. Activity history, protection switches, and Safari permissions stay on each device. Turning off a category keeps its local data and stops future syncing. iCloud syncing is provided by Apple and depends on your Apple Account, device settings, and iCloud availability.
Selected categories are stored in your private CloudKit database. Turning off sync or a category does not delete previously synced records. You can manage the app's stored iCloud data through Apple's iCloud storage settings. Apple's privacy and retention policies apply to iCloud storage.
Retention and deletion
Filter subscriptions, custom rules, website preferences, installed scripts, and app settings remain available until you change or remove them or delete the app's local data. DNS activity on your device follows the eight-day window described above, Void DNS records follow the three-month window, and you can clear activity sooner. Local diagnostics remain on the device unless you choose to export or share them. Device backups and iCloud copies are managed separately through Apple's services and are not deleted simply by turning off syncing.
Purchases
Void uses Apple’s App Store purchase flow. Purchase, subscription, restore, billing, and cancellation handling are managed by Apple through your Apple Account.
Website
This website is a static marketing and support site. It is designed to work without tracking scripts. Our hosting provider may still process ordinary server logs, such as IP address, user agent, requested page, and request time, to deliver the site and protect infrastructure.
Third-party lists
Void helps you use third-party filter lists such as Safari content blocker lists and DNS host lists. Those lists are maintained by their respective publishers. Review a list before adding it if you need to understand its scope.
Downloading or updating a list or script contacts its publisher or hosting provider. That service receives the requested resource and ordinary connection information, including the source IP address. Void does not send your DNS activity history with these downloads. Third-party scripts run on websites where you allow them and may make their own network requests; review a script's source and publisher before installing it.
Support requests
If you contact support, the message and any diagnostics or attachments you choose to send are used to answer your request. Support email is forwarded by Cloudflare Email Routing and stored in a Google Gmail mailbox. Messages remain in that mailbox until deleted; there is no automatic retention schedule. You can request deletion by contacting support. Do not include browsing history or other sensitive information unless it is needed for your request.
